Did Texas Spark Civil War?

 

The Oxford Press series on Pivotal Moments in American History turns its attention to 1844-1845 and the annexation of the Republic of Texas by the United States.

 

Cornell professor Joel Silbey's thesis is that the controversy over annexation ignited simmering North-South sectional differences that, once out of the bottle, eventually led to the Civil War.
