Near-Miss Assassination Attempt on FDR
Franklin D. Roosevelt was the only man elected president of the United States four times. But his presidency almost never got started as on Feb. 15, 1933, one month before being sworn in for his first term in office, he was nearly assassinated in Miami. Giuseppe Zangara fired five shots at Roosevelt, but struck and wounded Chicago Mayor Anton Cermak instead. Cermak died of his wounds later and Zangara was sent to the electric chair for his crime.
