Every year for the past 93 years, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, millions of people worldwide have commemorated the coming into effect of the Armistice that ended the fighting in First World War.
Heads are bowed, wreaths are laid, church bells ring, and memorial speeches are delivered. Most feel that they are commemorating a great triumph in human history. I suggest that the Armistice was a well-meaning, but enormous, blunder. It set in motion forces that resulted in the greatest tragedy experienced in modern times.
