â??JFK Still Dead, Baby Boomers Still Self Absorbed.â? So reads a headline â?? one of many, actually â?? slamming the media obsession with the 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedyâ??s assassination. And weâ??re still five days away.
Well, non-boomers will just have to put up with it.
My generation â?? those born between 1946 and 1964 â?? is clearly obsessed with Kennedyâ??s death, though younger boomers remember nothing firsthand save family stories of that long sad weekend from the murder Friday (where you were when you heard?) to the funeral Monday when an entire nation shut down. No school. No work. Stores, restaurants, even bars and gas stations closed.
