Republican China and U.S.: A History

Few countries have established a closer relationship with the Republic of China (ROC) than the United States. Indeed, Sun Yat-sen (?é?¸ä»?), the founder of the ROC, was seeking support from overseas Chinese and American sympathizers in Denver, Colorado, for his campaign against the Qing dynasty (1644â??1911) government when his followers started a successful uprising on October 10, 1911, in Wuchang, central China. The rebellion led to the overthrow of the Qing dynasty and ended more than 2,000 years of imperial rule in China. The ROC officially came into being at the beginning of 1912 and received recognition from the US government under President Woodrow Wilson the next year.
