WASHINGTON â?? With its just-opened, Harrison Ford, Russian submarine action epic, "K-19: The Widowmaker," the prestigious National Geographic Society has plunged into big-time Hollywood movie-making for the first time.
Unfortunately, it's axiomatic that, the deeper one gets into Hollywood movie-making, the further one can get from reality.
With the exception of its dubious belief that Adm. Robert Peary actually reached the North Pole in 1909, the National Geographic has shown itself to be quite possibly the most reliable, accurate and honest institution in the nation's capital, if not the nation.
