A commercial oil tanker crew received a nasty surprise when its anchor rose to the surface with a torpedo attached. The torpedo was removed—gently—by Royal Navy divers and destroyed.
The incident happened Friday, October 13. According to reports, the tanker, the Maltese-flagged Skaw Provider, was carrying 1,000 tons of "fuel or oil" when it raised anchor off the coast of Portsmouth, UK. Like a giant salad fork, the anchor had pierced the body of a torpedo lying on the ocean floor, bringing it up to the surface.
