'Versailles', premiering tonight on BBC2 at 9.30pm, is the latest bodice-ripping, culotte-dropping period drama from the BBC, which is keen to repeat the success of it's historical hit 'War and Peace'.
The raunchy series, which focuses on the court of Louis XIV, begins in 1667, a year after the death of the Sun King's' mother.
Twenty-eight-year-old Louis, in a move to consolidate his crown, resolves to establish his seat of power outside Paris by moving his court to his father's former hunting lodge at the Palace of Versailles, on the outskirts of of the capital.
