Red Sox center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. extended his hitting streak to 27 games with a single to right field in Boston's 5-2 win over Cleveland Sunday. But the streak nearly came to an end on Saturday at Fenway Park.
Leading off the sixth inning against Indians right-hander Trevor Bauer, Bradley hit a sharp ground ball up the middle. Second baseman Jason Kipnis dove full-extension to his right to grab it, and threw to first. The play was close, but first base umpire Marvin Hudson ruled that the throw pulled first baseman Carlos Santana's foot off the bag just as Bradley crossed it.
The Indians challenged the play, and after replay review, the call was upheld.
