The Man Who Revolutionized Television

Roone Arledge rarely appeared on camera, yet few people had more impact on the way Americans get their information from television.

Arledge, the creator of such standards as "Monday Night Football," "Wide World of Sports" and "Nightline" for ABC, died Thursday in New York of complications from cancer. He was 71.

From sports to news, Arledge was credited with transforming the medium.

Don Hewitt, executive producer of CBS' "60 Minutes" once said, "There will never be another Roone Arledge because there will never be another Babe Ruth, because there will never be another Charles Lindbergh."
