Disappointing Tome on Presidents Shares Nothing New

few weeks ago, Michael Beschloss's new book got the kind of christening few authors even dream of: a front page story in the Sunday New York Times. According to the reporter David Sanger, the big news from Beschloss was contained in new documents revealing that Gen William Westmoreland had wanted to use nuclear weapons in Vietnam in 1968.


“The documents reveal a long-secret set of preparations by the commander, Gen William C Westmoreland, to have nuclear weapons at hand should American forces find themselves on the brink of defeat at Khe Sanh, one of the fiercest battles of the war,” Sanger wrote.
