World's Oldest Wild Bird Lays Egg on Midway

San Francisco County has the oldest first-time moms in the country, but they've got nothing on Wisdom, a Laysan albatross who just laid an egg on Midway Atoll at age 68, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Wisdom is the oldest known wild bird in the world, according to the Fish and Wildlife Service. She was first banded by biologists as an adult in 1956 so while she's at least 68, it's possible she's even older. Before Wisdom, the lifespan of the Laysan albatross was believed to be around 40.
