Most people dream of flying, so it's only natural to be jealous of Ragnar Axelsson — a photographer also known as RAX — as he routinely flies his plane over the monumental, majestic and shrinking glaciers in his home country, Iceland.
“It's like being on a different planet,” he said. “If you can imagine that.”
RAX has been in love with the massive ice caps, which cover more than 10 percent of Iceland, since he first saw Oraefajokull when he was 7 years old. These days, he photographs in monochrome with a Leica camera as he flies, with the resulting images published in “Glacier” (“Jokull” in Icelandic) and recently featured in a solo exhibition at the Asmundarsalur museum in Reykjavik.
