When Martin Luther King Jr checked into Room 306 of the Lorraine Motel, one of the few in Memphis to give black Americans a friendly welcome, the eyes of the world were upon him.

This was the youngest man ever to have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, a leader whose oratory on behalf of his people could neither be ignored nor forgotten.
