merica has suffered its share of political scandals. But the award for "most scandalous" in history belongs to our 29th president, Republican Warren G. Harding of Ohio. The misbehavior in his White House included every variety of extortion, indecency, and sin imaginable … and some unimaginable!
The most famous Harding scandal was the Teapot Dome affair, named for the location of the naval oil reserves in California. The reserves were secretly leased (with lucrative kickbacks) to oilmen friendly with the administration. The man behind it, Harding's Interior Secretary, Albert Falls, ended up being the first Cabinet member to be imprisoned.
