Tales of people being killed by stones falling from the sky date back to biblical times, but to this day, no confirmed case of a person killed by a meteorite is known. Supposedly on June 28, 1911, a meteorite fragment falling from the sky near a village outside Cairo, Egypt, claimed a dog's life, making it — if true — the only known modern space rock casualty.
On November 30, 1954, Ms. Hewlett Hodges from Sylacauga (Alabama) was hit by a rock from outer space, smashing through the roof when she was napping on her couch. It is the only documented case of a person hit and injured by a meteorite.
