Blame Thomas Jefferson for Birth of Dirty Campaigning

I recently came across an article written by Fox News commentator, Bernie Goldberg, under the headline “Obama’s Campaign One Of The Dirtiest Ever”.

While I rarely agree with Mr. Goldberg’s political commentary, I credit him as an experienced and veteran reporter who has garnered many an Emmy Award for some high-quality television journalism dating back to his days at CBS News.

It was for this reason that I was taken aback by Mr. Goldberg's headline as it so clearly defies our nation’s long history of dirty politicking.

When it comes to negative campaign advertising and rhetoric, today’s candidates aren't even in the same league as our own Founding Founders—and the many presidential contenders who have followed—when it comes to playing rough in the game of electoral politics.
