Footage from a Russian Su-25 pilot’s close call with death may be the first of its kind in history.
The first-person video -shot with what appears to have been a helmet-mounted camera- shows the Su-25 “Frogfoot” pilot narrowly escaping a fiery death in what was already a very slim ejection window.
While the circumstances behind the aircraft crash are unknown, it is speculated that the aircraft’s vertical stabilizer was sheared off- either by a power line or by structural failure.
Examination of the aircraft as the pilot punched out showed no signs of being hit by enemy weapons systems.
The pilot can be seen parachuting to the ground below as his wingman and stricken aircraft pass him by, with his doomed bird eventually hitting the ground. The aviator appeared uninjured.
