What Was the Easter Rising?

Ireland's history is a long and complicated one. And as the nation nears the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Irish Free State on December 6, 1922, it's worth examining the events of six years earlier when an armed insurrection known as the Easter Rising took place in Dublin and other parts of the country, a rebellion launched by Irish republicans against British rule in Ireland with the aim of establishing an independent Irish Republic.
