The Worst Natural Disaster in Your State's History

Entire towns were submerged when the waters of the mighty Mississippi overflowed in April 1927, an event that led to one of the worst natural disasters in US history. More than 250 people died – around half of those in Arkansas – hundreds of thousands were displaced from their homes and more than 23,000 square miles (60,000sq km) of land was submerged in the flood. Arkansas City (pictured) was among places to be badly hit.
