History, Memory and the Semiquincentennial

Perhaps you have heard: The Semiquincentennial is coming. On July 4, 2026, the United States will commemorate its 250th birthday — the day the Declaration of Independence was proclaimed. In 2016, Congress created the United States Semiquincentennial Commission with directives to formally organize festivities to mark the anniversary.
