Writing in Providence, Timothy Cutler identified eighteenth-century political philosopher Edmund Burke as an “Anglican theologian,” principally relevant today for having understood “the theological underpinnings of our social order,” with Burke himself having been “a defender of the institutions of Christian civilization.”
