Friday, March 8, 1957, found USS Wahoo (SS 565) visiting Kaui for a short weekend liberty; immediately afterward, she was heading to Pearl Harbor for an extended overhaul. George H. Darfus, a member of the boat's wardroom, recalled "a big party" with their wives that night at the Coco Palms Hotel—and follow-up plans to sleep in the next morning, March 9.
