In Greek mythology, Calypso, whose name means "to hide" or "to conceal," is a nymphbest known from Homer's (c.750 BCE) epic The Odyssey for falling in love with Odysseusand imprisoning him on her island, Ogygia, for seven years (or five years, depending on the source), during his long voyage home.
