Japanese Surrender Ends World War II

Announced to the United States on Aug. 14, 1945, Japan's unconditional surrender ended World War II. The name "Victory over Japan (V-J) Day" applies to both August 14 and September 2, when the official surrender ceremony was performed in Tokyo Bay.
