Lost Spanish Settlement Found in Florida

|

An amateur archaeologist has found evidence of a 1559 Spanish settlement on the shores of Pensacola Bay. If true, it would predate St. Augustine, now considered America's oldest settlement, by six years. Experts say the find will provide an important window into the early Spanish colonial history in the modern-day United States.

JOHN WORTH: What we have found is the earliest, multiyear European settlement in the whole United States.
