President Reagan cancled a scheduled State of the Union address and instead delivered a speech to the nation from the Oval Office the night after space shuttle Challenger exploded, killing all seven astronauts on board.

The Space Shuttle Challenger Explodes on its 10th flight during mission STS-51-L. The explosion occurred 73 seconds after liftoff on Jan. 28, 1986.
