Allied Troops Liberate Rome

Over 36,000 Allied troops led by American Major General John P. Lucas landed in Italy on Jan. 22, 1944, and began a push toward Rome that included 150,000 more Allied soldiers and culminated with the liberation of the Italian capital six months later on June 4.
