Chicago White Sox Kill Disco

|

The Chicago White Sox performed one of baseball's most memorable publicity stunts when on July 12, 1979, Comiskey Park played host to the Detroit Tigers for "Disco Demolition Night." Chicago radio DJ Steve Dahl hosted the event, where fans could bring unwanted disco records, pay a 98-cent admission fee, and see their records blown up on the field. An estimated 90,000 people showed up (the stadium seated 52,000); LPs became frisbees; and after the disco demolition, fans rushed the field and rioted.
